Propolis is a resinous mass produced by bees. It is used as a building material to create inside of the hive to cover the surfaces and seal small openings and cracks. Propolis also has an antibacterial effect, which protects the hive from the proliferation of viruses and bacteria.

Propolis consists largely of natural resins from buds and trees. It also consists of beeswax, pollen, essential oils, trace elements and vitamins.
